died March 8, 1935, is a dog of race Akita.
This dog is famous in Japan for having, for nearly ten years, waited daily for his master at Shibuya station (Shibuya is one of the districts of Tokyo), after the death of the latter.
Nicknamed Chūken (忠 犬?, Faithful Dog), a statue, now a well-known rendezvous in Tokyo, was erected in his honor at Shibuya Station, opposite Shibuya Crossing. The story of Hachikō is also at the origin of the revival of interest for the race of Akita, then almost extinct
